Scramble Solver is a free helper for the Jumble and other scrambled-word puzzles. Type in the scrambled words, tap the circled squares, and it unscrambles each word and then the final answer from the circled letters, all on one page.
Who it’s for
People who do the Jumble in the paper, in an app or in a puzzle book, and sometimes get stuck on a word or on the pun at the end. It’s built to be easy to read and easy to tap: big letters, big buttons, and nothing to sign up for.
How it works
- Everything runs in your browser. The letters you type stay on your device and aren’t saved.
- Each scrambled word is matched against a word list, and the most common words come first. When a scramble makes more than one word, you can pick the one that fits.
- For the final answer, it tries every combination of dictionary words that uses all the circled letters in the blanks you give it. Puns that aren’t real words won’t turn up, so you can also tap the letters into the blanks yourself.
The word list
The words come from SCOWL (Spell Checker Oriented Word Lists) by Kevin Atkinson, version 2020.12.07, available at wordlist.aspell.net. We use the American spellings first, with British, Canadian and Australian spellings as a fallback, leave out names and abbreviations, and drop a short list of slurs. The copyright and license notices for SCOWL and its sources are in this file.
